Fall Color Crush: Oxblood

So far this season, I find myself gravitating toward two colors in particular. One of which is Oxblood (aka maroon, burgundy, wine, etc.). No matter what you want to call it, I can't seem to get enough and the options to suit my craving aren't disappointing. Here are some of my favorites (most of which are very reasonably priced!) :

Fall Color Crush: Maroon

Faux Leather Skirt | Satchel | Sweater | Tights | Pumps (Also love these two options under $30 (1&2) | Swing DressNail Color | Turtleneck | Jeggings

Being an Aggie, i'm a little partial to any shade that is basically maroon and am so used to wearing it year round. However, for the rest of the world, Fall is without a doubt the best time to wear this deep red as it is especially appropriate for the season and (in my opinion) pretty universally flattering.

Thanks for stopping by, check back Friday to see the other color I can't seem to get enough of lately!

Relaxed Layers

Striped Shirt | Cardigan | Jeans, old (similar here) | Shoes | Bangle (obsessed!) | Necklace | Earrings | Sunglasses

Q: What do I love wearing most when the weather cools down?
 A: Anything oversized.

It's true. In the Fall and Winter months, I gravitate toward any sweater, blouse, or cardigan that is oversized. That's why I love this shirt. It also doesn't hurt that it's ridiculously soft and extremely inexpensive.

This cardigan is the same story- oversized and comfortable, therefore I instantly fell in love with it. Until this past weekend, It had probably been about six years since I last set foot inside an American Eagle. I think I wore it so much in high school, that I associate the store and their clothing with that time in my life, which makes me feel like I've outgrown it. Same goes for Abercrombie & Fitch. However, as I was moseying through the mall, looking for the perfect Fall cardigan, I ended up walking in and was pleasantly surprised when I found exactly what I was looking for. When I got home and showed it to Kevin, he asked if I was becoming a Librarian, which gave me a good laugh (#hater). I can already tell that this cardigan will get tons of use this Fall and Winter. Bravo, AE!

Now, on to these white Chucks. Not typically my style, but after seeing them on so many of my favorite bloggers, I kind of jumped on the bandwagon. They're the perfect sneaker when you want something a little dressier than a running shoe but still casual. Plus, at $45, they're a steal.

Us Houstonians finally got some cooler temps this morning and while I'm sure it will be back in the 90's by this afternoon, it's a start and it was SO nice. I cannot wait 'til these chilly mornings are a regular occurrence.

Thanks for reading!

Fall Wish List

Now that it's September, I've officially started to transition into Fall and per usual, the coming of a new season brings a need to add new pieces to the wardrobe and I've got my eye on quite a few!

Along with leopard, leather and sweaters, you'll also find a few goodies on this list- like an amazing dupe of the Zara scarf everyone went crazy for last year (you can bet that baby is already in my closet waiting for cooler days)!

This Texas heat doesn't exactly allow for an overnight transition, so over the past few weeks I've been making progress on this list by picking up one or two things at a time and easing them into my wardrobe. That being said, some of these items have already made their way into my closet, while others are still just a dream in my online shopping cart ;)

Fall Wish List: Tops/Jackets

Fall Wishlist: Skirts & Dresses

Fall Wish List: Shoes

Making this list and slowly putting a dent in it has me REALLY looking forward to some cooler weather (so I can actually put them to use!) but until then, I'll continue my slow, Texas transition with things like darker colored rompers and extremely light sweaters.

I hope September is going well for y'all so far! Although mine got off to a rocky start, days like today remind me to be thankful- things can always be worse. Please take a second of your day to remember those who lost their lives thirteen years ago in the 9/11 tragedies and pray for their families. It's also a great time to think of all of those who are serving in our military due to this event and the sacrifices they've made to protect us.

As always, thank you so much for reading!

I may be ready to transition into Fall with warmer tones and layers but until this Texas heat lets up a little bit, I'm going to keep the Summer outfits coming! This season, I have LIVED in rompers- they're just so effortless and adorable and this feminine beauty from Dress Up is no exception. From the pattern, to the material, to the fit... it's just perfection. Although it's sold out now, Dress Up gets amazing new arrivals daily. I'm loving Cobalt as a fall transition color so I've got my eyes on this baby next. Do yourself a favor and go check them out!

Now lets talk about these wedges- y'all went crazy for them on Instagram! There's an identical pair from DSW (here) but this pair is from Shoedazzle. If you're new to Shoedazzle, I would definitely recommend signing up and giving it a try. I ended up paying $29 for these during a recent sale with a VIP discount and free shipping. Lets be honest, you can't get much better than that!

In other news, today marks the return of Starbuck's Pumpkin Spice Latte! I am also starting to receive my packages (one by one) from the recent Lilly Pulitzer sale so I'm thinking about doing a little haul post on those items as well as an overall review of the sale soon.

I hope y'all enjoyed the end of your Summer and that those of you going back to school have (or did have) a great first day! :)

Back to School: College Tips & Essentials

It's that time of year- A lot of you are getting ready to make (or already have made) the move back to school to either start your first year of college, or begin another year! As you most likely realized while you were packing- college requires A LOT of stuff. Looking back, I realize now that a lot of the things you need are ones that you may not have thought about until you actually needed them. So, as someone who has been through the whole process (and now feels old mentioning it like that), I thought I'd share some essentials and tips to (hopefully) make your college life and packing a little bit easier:

Back to School: College Essentials

1. Invest in a good pair of boots:
Tailgating in the South means boots. Every Saturday. All day long. So, a comfortable, high-quality pair are a necessity.
(Love these Old Gringo snip toe boots)

2. (If you're already a coffee drinker) Bring your own coffee maker:
Even if you're not already a coffee drinker, you may find yourself drinking it often to stay awake. College is where coffee drinkers are born. Late nights and early mornings of studying may drive you to caffeine and having it on hand and at your disposal is easy and cost effective.

3. Carry a portable phone charger:
College days are long and busy. Some days you may have to stay on campus for an extended period of time to study or work and you'll be glad you have a portable charger to keep your phone alive!
(Love this Johnathon Adler Portable Charger for iPhone5)

4. Don't forget to bring a go-to cross-body:
You may not carry it around on campus daily but for football games, tailgating and going out in general, the LAST thing you want to do is lug around a big purse.
(I love the Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC)

5. Always carry a pair of sunnies:
Get a good pair of sunglasses and keep them in your bag. You'll most likely do a lot of walking from class to class and sunglasses will come in handy.
(My go-to still to this day are the black and gold Ray Ban Aviators)

6. Wear a watch everyday.

7. Give in to the Norts:
Oh, the trusty Nike shorts. Judge if you must but there's a reason why everybody wears them- they're comfortable and so easy to throw on with a tee and run out the door.

7. Keep an umbrella in your book bag, always:
You'll thank me later. You never know when you'll come out of a class into a storm and need to get all the way across campus without getting soaked and it never fails that the one time you leave it at home is the day it'll pour. Hint- get one small enough to fit in your bag.

8. Invest in a pair of noise canceling headphones:
Worth the money. If you study in a library, dorm room, or anywhere on campus you're going to have to deal with distractions. It's much easier with noise canceling headphones!
(Mine are Bose)

9. Bring a power strip:
I recommend bringing at least one of these to school with you to have in your room. Between plugging in your laptop, tablet, phone, lamp, tv, etc- you're always going to be running out of outlets.

10. Get a water filter that attaches to your faucet:
Whether you're living in a dorm or have your own place, having drinkable water from the faucet makes things so much easier. Not only will it save you money on bottled water but it will also save you from carrying those huge cases of water up the stairs. Win win!

11. Wears baseball caps:
This goes back to walking outside a lot. Hats were my savior in college. They keep the sun off your face and also make doing your hair so much easier (#sidebraid).
(Love these monogrammed baseball caps from Marley Lilly)

12. Find a good book bag/backpack:
I had one of each. If you go with a book bag, get one with a long handle (easier to carry) and make sure it's big enough to keep things like notebooks and textbooks in while also having room for things like an umbrella, sunglasses, your phone, keys and wallet.

13. Always carry an insulated water bottle.
(I still carry this A&M Tervis with me everyday)

14. Wear tennis shoes:
Have I mentioned how much walking you're going to be doing yet? ;) Find a good pair of tennies and wear them. You're going to want a pair of comfortable shoes that you can put some miles on.
(Nike Frees are my favorite everyday sneaker, but I also love these)

15. Use a planner:
Even if you don't think you need one, school (and life in general) is SO much easier to get through when you're organized and know when things are happening.
(I love my Lilly agenda and this Kate Spade planner also!)

I hope these tips help you out just a little bit. Remember, you may be dreading going back to school for yet another year but know that some of us (raises hand) would gladly trade places with you :) Enjoy it while you can!

Summer Favorites: Elastic Shorts

I love nothing more than being both comfortable AND cute at the same time, which may be why one of my favorite things to wear this Summer has been elastic shorts. Actually, it not 'may be' why, it is why. Whether they're plain, patterned, chambray, cotton or chiffon - I can't seem to get enough of them, so today I'm sharing some of my very favorites [click on the image to be taken to the website]:
